South African Students Organisation Inaugurated in 1969 after its first generation of leaders split from the multiracial (as they saw it) white-led National Union of South African Students (NUSAS). Gained widespread support on all black campuses and initiated protects at the universities and elsewhere against the "bantu" educational system, even in part encouraging drop outs, and also some community projects. |
