The Comoros (Republique Fédérale Islamique des Comores) are a group of islands in the Indian Ocean on the east coast of Africa between Tanzania and Madagascar. The capital is Mordnji. Three of the four of the islands chose independence from France in 1975 to form the republic. In 1992 a new constitution was adopted with presidential elections every five years.
