| | On 29 September 1995 Oxfam UK organised a seminar in London entitled 'Multilateral Debt in the Poorest Countries: Which Way Forward?' ' Multilateral debt owed to international financial institutions is now widely recognised as an obstacle to economic recovery and poverty reduction in many of the world's poorest countries. Against this background, the Group of Seven industrialised countries have acknowledged at the Toronto Summit the urgent need for an agreement on multilateral debt relief, setting the scene for an important debate on the subject at the annual IMF-World Bank meeting in October.' |
