Banana Wars in Somalia
---
Abstract of Briefing
Title:Banana Wars in Somalia
Location:Vol.22 No.64 (June 1995), pp274-275
Driving along in jeeps-turned-combat-vehicles, the infamous 'technicals' commando unit stops near a fine villa in the middle of a banana plantation on the outskirts of Mogadishu. The men open fire on the residence where Philippino employees of the US multinational Dole are taking a rest, gunning down one of the guards. A walkie-talkie in one hand, and a sculpted cane in the other, Ahmed Duaale Xaaf, managing director of Somalbana, the Somalian subsidiary of Dole, accuses Somalfruit's militia without any hesitation.
