| | The literature on Madagascar for long has expostulated on the theme of matriarchy on Africas giant island. Without denying the apparently relatively advanced situation that some privileged groups of Malagasy women occupy compared to women in the adjoining continent or in much of Asia, and even compared to women in western countries, I will analyse the empowerment (or non-empowerment) of women in Madagascar, and investigate how to increase that empowerment within the concrete situations that I am familiar with. |
