| | In a series of three articles, 'Liberating ''Liberal' ' Freedoms' (Work in Progress 61, 1989), 'Discourses of Democracy in the South African Left: A Critical Commentary' (ROAPE Conference paper, 1989) and 'Putting Democracy Back into Democratic Socialism' (Work in Progress 65, 1990), Daryl Glaser has opened up a debate which will undoubtedly, and deservedly, run and run. These three articles written in early 1989, late 1989 and early 1990 respectively, span the period of the collapse of 'actually existing socialism' in Eastern Europe and seek to radically question the concept of democracy within South African socialist and liberation theory and practice. |
