In the event, and despite the electoral manipulation and intimidation noted by Leys and Bush in the Briefing, SWAPO won a convincing majority, and there were celebrations in Windhoek and elsewhere. They obtained 57.3% of the popular vote in this single list, proportional representation election, giving them 41 out of 72 seats in the Constituent Assembly, which has now begun to meet.
