Abstract of Review
Title:The Political Economy of Soil Erosion by Piers Blaikie
Reviewer:Kate B Showers
Location:Vol.12 No.33 (Summer 1985), pp113-115
Land degradation and soil erosion have, during the last century, become an increasing concern of the Western world. This interest was turned into focused plans of research and action following the drought and dust storms of the 1930s which occurred in western North America and southern Africa. Soil conservation departments and projects proliferated throughout the USA and Africa. Many of these projects lasted for 10-25 years, establishing soil conservation as a concern of national governments. (see link to response, below)
