| | There has been a progressive militarisation of the Namibian economy as the SA state acts to contain SWAPO. SADF (South African Defence Force) and SWATF (South West African Territorial Force) efforts to legitimise the war are aimed at gaining the co-operation of whites and of capital and, in turn, offering them an economic stake in the war effort. SADF regards white farmers as a second line of defence and has acted to ensure that they remain on their farms and feel protected. Foreign capital operating illegally in Namibia has sustained the numerous SADF (South African Defence Force), SWATF (South West African Territorial Force), police and vigilante groups fighting SWAPO through contributions to state revenues, contracts for forces and military-security infrastructure, and by arming their staff and making employees available for service. In return, the war generates a military demand for their products. |
