Reviewer:Jeff Crisp
Location:Vol.10 No.27/28 (Winter 1983), pp217-219
Both of these books examine the role of the urban poor, and particularly the working class, in the political economy of the post-colonial state. Among the topics discussed are WB (World Bank) programmes, the ILO (International Labour Office) World Employment Programme, the Marxist analysis of third world social formation. Crisp notes that in their ideology, their methodology, and their standard of analysis, they are very different.
