 The first of three reviews of The Berg Report, discussing women's work and production systems. This first is a review of two reports on the agricultural crisis: USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) and the IBRD (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development). Guyer discusses the apparent decline in agricultural production in Africa and its profound implications for women; the debate about women's labour in African agriculture, the importance of women's work in rural production and meticulously discusses the interpretation given in these reports.
