| | The elapse of a quarter of a century after the political independence of the Sudan has produced no radical social improvement. In fact, the general living standards of the mass of people has actually deteriorated. The state has failed to provide the basic services which are essential ingredients of any dignified human life: the provision of housing, clothing, food, education, drinking water and medical services to the working people. This, we would argue, is a consequence of an acceptance and active sponsorship of a capitalist structure. The choice of the 'capitalist' road breeds increasing inequality and procures very little 'development' for the mass of the population. |
