Within two weeks of his return to Ethiopia to take up a lectureship in the History Department of Addis Ababa University, Bahru Zewde formerly of SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies), University of London, was arrested. Eshetu Chole, Dean of the Faculty of Arts of Addis Ababa University was arrested at about the same time.
