Abstract of Review
Title:Ethiopia: Political Contradictions in Agricultural Development by Michael Stahl
Reviewer:Bahrub Zewde
Location:Vol.2 No.3 (Summer 1975), pp105-106
The vitality of the land question in Ethiopian Political life has been shown with renewed force since February 1974. Michael Stahl's analytical work could thus have come at no better time. Using official documents and hitherto unpublished and often neglected research reports, in addition to his own field work, the author has given us a lucid exposition of the marriage of feudalism and world capitalism and the contradiction between the strategies of the development of peasant agriculture and commercial farming. The work is at the same time a major contribution to the study of the development/underdevelopment process.
