Political Economy of Underdevelopment (Szentes)
---
Abstract of Review
Title:The Political Economy of Underdevelopment by Tamas Szentes
Reviewer:Fred Nixson
Location:Vol.1 No.1 (Spring 1974), pp84-88
This review does not attempt to give a definitive interpretation of the work of Szentes. The summary given cannot do justice to the complexity and depth of his analysis. It is hoped that it will promote a wider awareness of this very important book which is the first serious and comprehensive attempt, apart from the earlier work of Baran, to develop a genuine political economy of underdevelopment. Covers: LDCs (Less Developed Countries); colonialism; external dependence; class structure; overcoming dependency. It concludes that massive state intervention in the economy is a precondition for the liquidation of underdevelopment.
