The South Africa NUM (National Union of Mineworkers) is currently assessing the effects of its industrial action in August to September 1985. After extended negotiations with the Chamber of Mines the NUM proposed strike-action for 24 August. The offer of between 14.1% and 19.6% did not meet the NUM's demands.
